Abstract: The annotated edition of the Tongsubian collected by Xu Xingke in the Hubei Provincial Library contains 500 comments on vulgar expressions, handwritten by Huang Kan. As Huang Zhuo only includes 365 of these comments in his Remarks on the Tongsubian, the Tongsubian in Xu Xingke’s collection supplements the incompleteness of Huang Zhuo’s edition. The 135 comments left out by Huang Zhuo not only reflect his selection strategy in his compilation of the Remarks on Tongsubian, but also represent a complete overview of Huang Kan’s research on the Tongsubian.
