Abstract

Abstract: The article surveys 63 ALA accredited LIS master’s degree programs in North America, collects and sorts out the data on the MLIS rankings and “Law Librarianship” sub-rankings conducted by the U.S. News & World Report, as well as the status of the iSchool member institutions. It concludes that the North America model through long historical development shall offer valuable experience to Chinese counterparts The article also studies the current practice in China by analyzing the law related courses or contents offered in these reputable MLIS programs. The article suggests that Chinese LIS community should promote the institutionalized education for law librarianship or legal information specialists, and advocate for the long-term competency of Chinese law librarianship.
