Abstract: Reading on WeChat is popular among college students in China. However, there is a bias that reading on WeChat is too superficial, and whether reading on WeChat can become a supplementary study method remains controversial. The current study examined participants’ reading experience differences on WeChat and printed books, and revealed that there was no significant difference in terms of reading time, time for answering question and reading comprehension accuracy. But participants reported that they preferred to reading via printed books and they believed that reading on WeChat was more for quick reading and shallow reading with lesser degree of immersion. However, the correlation between reaction time or accuracy and participants’ evaluation was not significant. It implied that reading on WeChat could be used as a supplementary learning method for education.
