Abstract: Using the historical analysis method, according to the characteristics of the development of reading promotion curriculum and teaching materials, this paper deeply analyzes the centennial changes of reading promotion curriculum from school education and continuing education. The development of reading promotion curriculum in China can be divided into four periods: starting period (1920-1949), rising period (1949-1966), fluctuation period (1977-1998) and recovery period (2014-present). The starting period pays attention to courses related to books; in the rising period, school education and continuing education flourish at the same time, service courses are becoming more and more abundant, and reader research related contents begin to appear; in the fluctuating period, the reading promotion education slowed down as a whole, and the reader research developed, but the contents related to books and services weakened; in the recovery period, with the development of the cultivation action of “reading promoters”, continuing education flourished, and the reading promotion courses in school education began to recover, but the overall scale was small. It is proposed that a reading promotion curriculum system should be established to cultivate knowlege of books, readers’ research ability and service ability.
