Abstract: Information about print runs was easily found in modern local gazettes. According to these print
runs’ information, we can conclude that the print runs of wood block local gazettes in the late Qing Dynasty
were about 300, and the local gazettes with new technology printing in the Republic of China were about 500.
The reprinted local gazettes may be less. In general, in modern times, normally each kind of new local gazettes
is printed in hundreds of copies. It is unusual to get several copies, dozens of copies or thousands of copies.
The reasons for this phenomenon may be the special nature of local gazettes, the small reader group of local
gazettes, shortage of funds, the high price of local gazettes, limited printing technology and so on.
