Abstract: The historical value and academic value of non-book and non-periodical documents from the Republic of China period are very high, and they are important materials for the study of modern Chinese history. There are 275 kinds of such documents, accounting for about 1/4 of the total 1021 kinds of publications of the period sorted out after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. These include archives, bulletins, conference materials, government documents, data compilation, investigation reports, statistical data, celebrity chronicles, genealogy, diary, manuscripts and letters. In the order of time, this paper divides the collation and publication of non-book and non-periodical documents into three periods, and expounds on the status and characteristics of such collation and publication in the three periods respectively. It also points out the existing problems: extremely unbalanced literature types; concentrated among a few publishing houses; limited number of topics; and the missing of index. The paper concludes with proposals for improvement.
