Abstract: Independent reading refers to the free and independent reading of readers according to their own interests. Independent reading can promote the formation of adolescents’ self-development ability. Limited by the current situation of our country’s education and the Internet environment, teenagers’ independent reading is not satisfactory. This paper makes a study of the foreign literary translations from the recommended reading bibliography of Chinese Curriculum Criteria. According to the three foreign classification criteria of A-Z grading, DRA and Lexile, it evaluates the English original works by grading. The results show that the recommended bibliography of the existing Chinese curriculum standard is too general. There is a lack of definite reading grading and corresponding reading guidance suggestions. Therefore, one of the important measures to promote teenagers’ independent reading is to gradually establish the Chinese reading grading standards, promote extensive collaboration among schools, libraries and publishing houses, and put the study of reading grading truly on the agenda, so as to truly help adolescent readers develop the habit of independent reading.
