Abstract: With the further development and application of big data technologies in libraries, data-driven
research on library user behaviors is gradually emerging. According to the statistical analysis results of
the domestic and foreign research literatures in this domain, this paper reviews the development trends
and changes during the past decades. Through the social network analysis on keywords appearing in
these research literatures, this paper reveals the current research contents and hot topics in this area. We
demonstrate the basic concepts and theories of data-driven research on library user behaviors from four
aspects: concept definitions, research contents, research methods and practical applications. Moreover, we
summarize the main contents and study methods of existing research, tring to present a current overview
of this area. In the meantime, several new trends in this domain are summarized in this paper, including
research paradigm shifting, research granularity refinement and multi-source data fusion. We also discuss
the direction and challenges of future development from the aspects of data privacy and protection, data
storage and integration, model selection and evaluation, data product development, and their impact on
library services.
