Light Up The Heart: Pudong Library Service for Visually Impaired People

Abstract: As a social institution that protects the intellectual and cultural rights of citizens, public libraries are obliged to provide equal services to vulnerable groups, including the visually impaired. This article, through in-depth interviews with persons in charge of the Visually Impaired Service Project of Shanghai Pudong Library, traces the origins of the equal service concept and humane care spirit, and introduces the preparation, development and optimization process of the accessible computer training course, including the course setting, selection of lecturers and librarians, etc. It also describes the role of Pudong Library, the media and the community in promoting the service to visually impaired persons.
