Abstract: Based on the existing research results in the field of user experience, this paper explores the interdisciplinary attributes and studies the historical roots and development trends of the field by introducing the quantitative analysis tool Reference Publication Year Spectroscopy (RPYS) to make up for the inadequacies of previous studies. The results show that user experience can be traced back to the earliest humanities and information technology disciplines such as human behavior, aesthetics, and psychology. The important years of the user experience field and several core works identified by RPYS are of vital importance to the development of user experience, which demonstrates that RPYS can be used to analyze the origin and evolution of disciplines.
