Strange Tales of Sindu: Legends of Indian Libraries in the Chinese Buddhist Texts

Abstract:

Chinese Buddhism originated in India, therefore the ancient libraries in India, those Buddhist manuscript libraries in particular, become the model of the sinicization of Buddhist libraries in China.Salvaging the textual evidence of Indian tales of Buddhist libraries and sutra stupas in the Chinese Buddhist
texts, this essay aims to advance the study of Indian Buddhist libraries through the new perspective of sinology.
