Study on the Needs of Library Users with the Ethnographic Method: A Project on Investigating the Process of Completing Course Paper of Shanghai University Freshmen

Abstract:

Providing services based on users’ needs is a fundamental development strategy for library.Ethnographic method is an effective method to this end, and more than 40 overseas libraries have made relevant practices that led to certain results. By describing the process, findings and conclusions of a study
which applyies ethnographic methods to studying freshmen’s academic behaviors in Shanghai University,we try to localize the use of ethnographic methods in university library and explore ways for the integration of the library services with the users’ needs.
