Abstract:

The researches on the standards of government metadata are still at the initial stage and the metadata standards are the key factor to promote the openness and the sharing of data. This paper chooses Data.gov.au, the open data portal of Australian government, to investigate and analyze the elemental
components, data format and syntax rule. It draws the following lessons: establishment of unified metadata standards for government data, issuance of multiple data open formats and the set-up of special open metadata management institution for metadata management.
