Abstract:

Sweden passed a library law in real sense in 1996. After about a decade, the Swedish Government and library community evaluated the law and decided on the necessity of amendment. In 2012, a draft of amendment was presented by the Government and in 2013, Swedish Parliament passed the amendment. Yet it was received differently across the Sweden. Overall, the amendment was proposed by the government, covers entity within the public library system, and stresses the focus on reader service. But the problem of responsibility designation between the central and local remains unsolved.
