Reading Therapy of a Depressed Patient: Comment on Li Lanni’s The Wilderness

Abstract: The Wilderness: A Mental File of a Patient of Depression is a new work of the famous contemporary writer Li Lanni, a patient with severe depression. This paper analyzes the unique structure of the book and the associated reading therapy, which involves more than 30 books that are helpful to depression. Combining Li Lanni’s personal feeling, it analyzes the mechanism of reading therapy, discusses the important role of reading therapy for Li Lanni against depression, and concludes that the book could be regarded as an empirical archive for reading therapy.
