Abstract:

The applications of online mapping enhance the visualization, but the graphics are often too complicated to
be interpreted. In the meanwhile, because of the lack of academic knowledge, bibliometric scholars are restrained from
in-depth analysis. Therefore, the combination of bibliometrics, online mapping (simplified), and expert knowledge has
become an inevitable choice. The paper, by studying the changes of scientific output in deepwater oil and gas fields (a
hot topic in environmental resources in recent years) divides the key principle into 2 major subject areas, identifies the
five key research themes, and notices that nations that resemble US disciplines distribution are also great powers in the
field. These results reflect the field’s developmental trend, and have also been acknowledged by experts in the field.
