Do Not Ignore the Primary Role of Academic Libraries as a“Buyer”:From the Perspective of Faculty in American Colleges and Universities

Abstract:

A lot of academic libraries have blindly pursued derivative information services recently in the hope of
playing a critical role in teaching and researching, while ignoring their primary mission, as perceived by faculty, should
be a good “buyer”. In accordance with surveys conducted among faculty in American higher learning institutes, the paper
proposes that academic libraries should guarantee effective acquisitions before engaged in derivative information
services.
