Abstract: In the 70 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the overall study of classical philology embodies the characteristics of continuity, comprehensiveness, interweaving and practicality. The content mainly focuses on the collation and publication of ancient books, the discussion of the basic theory of philology, the construction and improvement of sub-disciplines, the analysis of research methods and the relationship with relevant disciplines, the sorting out of the history of philology and research, and the study of various specific issues. The continuous pursuit of scholars has effectively promoted the formation and development of the discipline system of classical philology. However, there are still some shortcomings in the research achievements of the past 70 years, such as insufficient innovation in research fields, lack of rigorous and in-depth theoretical research, uneven efforts in sub-disciplines, and urgent enhancement of “problem awareness”.
