The Change of Role of Acquisition Librarians in the Social Media Age

Abstract:

With the development of social media, the library collection is faced with opportunities for development, as well as enormous challenges. The emergence of social media acquisition poses new requirements on acquisition librarians, who should possess the abilities to judge, to decide, to discover and to present based on big data analytics and omni-media access. Apart from the traditional acquisition, they should pay more attention to books planning, data analysis and reading promotion. At the same time, they should achieve self-improvement by means of the Internet technology, knowledge and experience accumulation, and creative thinking.
