The Past and the Future of Bibliographic Format: From MARC to BIBFRAME

Abstract

Abstract: This paper describes the bibliographic data format development from MARC to BIBFRAME, elaborates the bibliographic data model BIBFRAME based on linked data, from the perspectives of entities, attributes, relationships and vocabulary. It analyzes the differences and similarities between the future content cataloging rule RDA and BIBFRAME. This paper also researches the mapping between MARC21 and BIBFRAME, identifies the problems existing in mapping. Finally, it presents the BIBFRAME testing and supportive tools.
