The Evolution of Taiwan’s Book Club and Its Enlightenment

Abstract: The article analyzes the general situation and evolution path of Taiwan’s book clubs for the past 30 years, and finds that the universal promotional campaign can’t be sustained even with the full support of policies and resources from the Taiwan authorities; rather, the book clubs operated by libraries, schools and other non-governmental organizations show great vitality. Throughout the evolution of the Taiwan book club, f inds it has made efforts to slove three problems: breaking through the development bottleneck of private book clubs, correctly positioning the role of government in promoting the book clubs, and aggregating the social forces to promote book clubs.
