Abstract: The newly discovered self-emended diary manuscript of Gu Tinglong provides crucial primarymaterial for studying his compilation philosophy and historiography. By examining this self-emendedmanuscript alongside the original diary entries and related documents this study investigates the processof Gu Tinglong's personal revision of his diary during the 1980s and 1990s. The research reveals that thisself-emendation process represents Gu's academic self-awareness in his later years. He deliberatelyexcised personal content while increasing the records of academic and professional activities with the aimof producing an academic legacy for future generations. This endeavor reflects his cultural selfconsciousnessas dual identity in terms of scholar and library pioneer—demonstrating reverence foracademic truth and a commitment to historical transmission. Gu Tinglong transformed his personal lifeexperiences into historical documents through diary revision thereby establishing a model worthy ofsustained study and emulation in the development of modern Chinese librarianship.
