Abstract: used in American public libraries. Concept books, as the cognitive picture books, can teach concrete and abstract concepts. These concept books are quite different from “concept books” in the field of book design. They can effectively supplement and reinforce children’s direct sensory experiences, and help strengthen preschoolers’ knowledge of the world. Concept books could be categorized according to their topics, such as colors, alphabets, shapes, numbers and counting, sizes, and sound. In order to carry out the parent-child reading activities for preschoolers, Chinese public libraries should make good use of excellent concept books to improve parent-child communication and interaction via ritualized
dialogues.
