Abstract: In the CALIS database of Chinese joint directory, there are many inconsistences in the description of normative Chinese translation of foreign authors’ family names. The main causes are that cataloguers do not fully understand the rules; or they have not followed the established translation rules. It is necessary to check reference books when cataloguers have doubts in cataloging, especially when the authors in question are cultural celebrities, or else they might choose to take the translators’
version.
