Abstract: Global City study focuses on the development of major cities over the world at three levels: the evolution of global city networks, the intrinsic changes in global cities, and the development of key functions of global cities. Conducting global city research requires a huge amount of information. With the development of major cities around the world, there are basic symbiotic relationships between major universities and cities. Therefore, in the process of conducting the global city study, there is a considerable possibility for university libraries to meet such information needs. This paper attempts to analyze the information demand map of global city study, and proposes the basic concept of global city information resource allocation from the perspective of university library. The study found that in the modern / contemporary world, the information needs of the global city study are mainly met through the construction of professional data resources and ubiquitous information resources. The simultaneous allocation of data resources by university libraries in the “functional” and “connotative” areas of global cities will be beneficial to the involvement of professionals in their universities in global urban research.
