Research on Library Publishing Service of Purdue University Library

Abstract: The cooperation between libraries and presses in publishing service has become one of the
important models of library publishing service. Exploring the publishing service cooperation practice
of American university libraries and presses is of great significance for the library publishing service in
China. The paper uses case study to analyse the most representative American university library publishing
service—the Purdue University. After learning the background and model change of its academic publishing
service, it summarizes the experience and characteristics of the cooperation between Purdue University
Library and press in publishing service in terms of funding source, human resources development,
publishing service process, publishing service platform and publication types. The lessons drawn for the
development of library publishing in China: setting up professional position of publishing librarian and the
specialized academic publishing service department, focusing on key disciplines and obtaining the multifunding
supports, designing a convenient and efficient publishing service process and providing the strong
technical support.
