Abstract: The paper makes an analysis of e-book service targeting at the general public based on
questionnaires taken by domestic e-book providers for libraries, including integrators and publishers.
From the aspects of resource development, technical characteristics and business model, the status quo and
development of representative popular e-book services are analyzed. Popular e-book platforms suffer from
a couple of prevalent problems such as the small proportion of new arrivals, the low synchronization rate
of paper books and e-books, and the poor reading experience. At the same time, the difficulty in integrating
resources between suppliers also make it less easy for libraries to provide unified services. The paper,
therefore, proposes to e-book providers to increase the openness of data, and to promote e-book reading
after studying users’ reading behavior in collaboration with libraries.
