Abstract: The development of think tank service in university libraries is not only a response to the national strategy, accommodating the needs of university, but also an urgent requirement for the library’s own transformation. The paper introduces the exploration and practices of Peking University Library in providing service typical of think tanks, such as discipline development support services and periodic research monitoring services. Through analyzing the advantages, significance, difficulties and problems it encounters, the paper puts forward the thoughts and strategy of developing the think tank service in university library, such as the construction of basic database, and the establishment of personnel training mechanism and experts team, in the hope of enhancing the initiatives, improving professionalism, and building high-profile brands.
