Abstract:

This paper aims to review and explore domestic research status on the topic of research method in the field of LIS. A total of 645 journal articles, published from 1981 to 2015 in Chinese journals of library and information science (LIS), are analyzed through bibliometric and content analysis. The findings show: the amount of papers concerning research method generally kept increasing these years and peaked in 2009 and 2010; the papers are mainly published in Chinese core journals such as Library and Information Service; highly cited papers like Discussion on the Methodology in Library Science Research
lay the foundations for related research in China; based on the amount of papers and their citation, a number of scholars and researchers are recognized as the key authors, including Qiao Haoqin, Qiu Junping, Huo Guoqing, Wang Zizhou, Ye Ying and Wang Yuefen; Chinese researchers mainly focus on the methodology, special method and general method, while failing to pay enough attention to philosophical method; when it comes to specific method, the top three most introduced and discussed methods are citation analysis, content analysis and bibliometric method, which are widely applied to research in China as well.
