From Collection to Research Empowerment： Development Path and Prospect of Genealogy Service System of Shanghai Library

As one of the three pillars of Chinese historical literature alongside official history and local chronicles, genealogy is an important resource for cultural inheritance and public cultural services. As the public institution with the largest collection of original Chinese genealogy documents at home and abroad, Shanghai Library has gradually built a full chain genealogy service system covering resource construction, collation and research, digital services, and space operation after decades of development. This paper systematically sorts out the domestic and international research and practice progress related to genealogy, takes the three iterations of Shanghai Library's service space as the core context, and summarizes its practical experience in preservation-oriented collection, multi-channel resource construction, professional collation, digital humanities application, and interdisciplinary capacity building. The study further analyzes the bottlenecks faced by China's current genealogy public services, and proposes three future development directions: strengthening the dual positioning of public outreach and academic research, promoting the transformation from digital full-text service to knowledge support service, and establishing participatory mechanism for collaborative resource development involving the public. It provides reference for the innovation of genealogy-themed resource services in domestic public libraries and contributes to the construction of China as a cultural power.
