Topics, Values, and Prospects: Applications of Practice Theory in Foreign Library and Information Science Research

Abstract:

Science LIS is also witnessing a notable 􀆵 practice turn . However the application of practice theory within LIS remains insufficiently explored. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of how practice theory has been applied in international LIS research thereby facilitating a deeper understanding of the practice-oriented characteristics within this field. A total of 138 journal articles were selected for analysis employing content analysis and open coding. The findings reveal an increasingly evident trend of the 􀆵practice turn in LIS research particularly in the areas such as information practice information literacy information systems and knowledge management. Practice theory has contributed significantly to this shift by providing novel theoretical perspectives key concepts research methodologies and focal points of study. Moreover practice theory demonstrates particular strengths in addressing information behavior knowledge management and organizational practices in the contexts of artificial intelligence cross-cultural information exchange and information society issues.
