Abstract:

As an important research output scientific software plays a pivotal role in modern scientific research. However its academic value is often under estimated leading to a range of problems such asduplicate development and wastage of research resources. These problems mainly stem from the lack of recognition within the academic community and the imperfection of the academic evaluation system. Therefore it is necessary to correctly understand the impact of scientific software on scientific research and incorporate scientific software into the academic evaluation system. Drawing on multi-source data andmultiple methods the book Research on Intelligent Recognition and Impact Measurement of ScientificSoftware by Dr. Pan Xuelian systematically studies the automatic identification of scientific softwareentities in full-text databases the measurement of software impact and the use citation and outputcontribution of scientific software at home and abroad. It provides a new perspective and viewpoint of scientific software for research output evaluation. The book has robust data sources well-founded methods clear arguments and reliable conclusions which provides inspiration for the research output evaluation. It not only enriches the research content and methodological tools of the field but also offers important reference to relevant departments in China to increase investment in scientific software researchand development and explicitly incorporate scientific software into the evaluation system of research output.
