Mission-Driven, Theoretical Exploration, and Innovative Practice: A Study on National Reading Promotion by Shanghai Society of Library Science

Abstract:

As a professional organization dedicated to serving the academic and professional librariancommunities in Shanghai, Shanghai Society of Library Science(SSLS) has steadfastly upheld its missionof “ advancing librarianship and fostering scholarly research and exchange, thereby promoting thedevelopment of library and information services in Shanghai. ” With national reading promotion as one ofits core priorities, SSLS was the first library association in China to establish a dedicated readingpromotion committee. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the committee’s developmentaltrajectory and notable achievements in advancing national reading initiatives. Through a systematicanalysis of SSLS‘s contributions to institutional framework building, theoretical exploration, innovativepractices, and experience inspiration in the field of reading promotion, this study seeks to offer valuableinsights and inspiration for library professionals. The findings are intended to foster collaborative effortstowards deepening national reading initiatives.
