Mission,Mechanism,Talent,and Service:The Library Society of China’s Exploration and Practice in Promoting National

Abstract: For over a century,modern libraries have upheld the mission of “finding books for people andfinding people for books,”leveraging their collections and professional expertise to play a crucial role ininheriting Chinese civilization,disseminating cultural knowledge,promoting reading,and improvingnational literacy. As a nationwide,academic,and non profit professional association in China‘s librarycommunity,the Library Society of China(LSC)has long been actively exploring and deeply practicingstrategies to advance national reading. This article reviews key efforts and reflections during the author stenure at the LSC Secretariat (2011 2020),focusing on how the LSC,based on its mission andresponsibilities,has promoted national reading through initiatives related to organizational mechanisms, talent cultivation,and service innovation,particularly aligned with the developments during the end ofChina’s 11th Five Year Plan.
