National Reading as the Sacred Mission of Public Libraries:A Review and Prospect of the 20th Anniversary of the Reading Promotion Working Committee of the Library Society of China

Abstract:

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Reading Promotion Working Committee of the LibrarySociety of China(RPWC, LSC), this article uses historical research, text analysis, and online surveymethods to elaborate on the global development and evolution of national reading as an important missionof public libraries since their emergence in 1850. Looking back at the 20-year development history of theRPWC, the authors believe that in the future, the RPWC should further focus on strengthening thedevelopment of professional talent teams for national reading promotion, carrying out family readingpromotion work, thus establishing a more comprehensive national reading brand matrix.
