Construction and Reflections on the Subject Print-CollectionOrganization System under the University Multi-LibraryModel: A Case Study of Peking University

Abstract:

To support the “Double First Class” initiatives in universities, libraries should gain a clear orrenewed understanding of print-collection organization. This article uses Peking University as a case studyto first assess the current state and challenges of print-collection work in its main and branch libraries.It then analyzes the factors to consider in developing the print-collection system for the university. Thepaper emphasizes the importance of establishing a subject-specific print-collection framework, optimizingthe dynamic three-level preservation system, and implementing a university-wide, subject-organizedcollection system. In conclusion, the article provides an in-depth analysis and reflections, in order tolay a solid foundation for building a virtuous cycle within the academic resource ecosystem across theuniversity’s main and branch libraries.
