Compilation and Interpretation of Five Lost Articles by ShenDeqian

Abstract:

Five articles, including Preface to Xiao Lan Gai Poetry Collection, are not collected inthe existing compilation of Shen Deqiacn’s poetry collection and the compilation of Shen Deqian’s lostworks. Most of these articles are Shen Deqian’s later-life works, reflecting his emphasis on spiritualityin his later years, and some new ideas on the combination of some leisurely elements with the solemnofficialese-style. These works also reflect Shen’s standpoint that praises Zhu Xi but reserve prefaces in theanalysis of the Book of Poetry, or incorporate his comprehension of various poetic relationships such astalent and erudition. In brief, these works, which highlight the richness of Shen Deqian’s poetic thoughtsin his later years, hold significant importance in the study of Shen Deqian and the poetics history of theQing Dynasty, thus possessing substantial literary value.
