Abstract:

In this study, we showed the authenticity of Weng Tonghe’s inscriptions on Fu Shan’s Annotation on Poetry of Du Fu, stored in Shanghai Library. Based on this, we proposed that Weng Tonghe’s assertion, the annotation is authored by Fu Shan, should not be easily denied. Then we showed that Books on Poetry of Du Fu’s questioning does not have sufficient evidences. We also disconfirmed the opinion from Descriptive Catalog of Poetry of Du Fu, “Wuzi” in Weng Tonghe’s inscription should be “Wuxu”. In addition, we showed that Fu Shan’s questioning on the authenticity of “Outi” and other two poems in Poetry of Du Fu assisted on discrimination of Du’s poems. And from Fu Shan’s criticism on the art of Du’s poems and the Du Fu’s disposition, we exposed Fu Shan’s introspection on the trend of admiring Du Fu from the Song Dynasty and Fu Shan’s adherents’ psychology denying Qing government’s legitimacy. In the end, we showed that Fu Shan’s evaluation of poems is focused on “flavor”, which is the harbinger of Theory of Verve and Theory of Disposition prevailing in the Qing Dynasty, important in the history of poetics.
