Study on the Role and Service Strategy of Libraries from the Perspective of Altmetrics

Abstract

Abstract:

The paper focuses on Altmetrics, which came into being in the age of online research. Firstly,it introduces the connotation, metric indexes and data sources of Altmetrics, analyzes the advantages and its major functions when applied to libraries. It then summarizes the existing problems in Altmetrics application, and points out that libraries should undertake the roles as researchers, practitioners, educators,and promoters of Altmetrics. Finally it puts forward the possible roles of Altmetrics in collection development, institutional repository construction, online research communication support and information service, and calls attention to the issues to be addressed in the process.
