Abstract: Information linguistics is a study dealing in a united way with various information retrieval languages and the application of natural languages to information retrieval, in order to explore their common rules which influence retrieval effectiveness and efficiency and ways of improvement. Its underling aim and core problem is effectiveness and efficiency of information retrieval. In this paper Professor Zhang Qiyu, founder of information linguistics, shares with us how he established the discipline, ranging from its research methods, evolving procedure, improvement of the disciplinary system to his research findings, etc.
