Abstract: The manuscript of Notes of Mr. No Yard-Wedding written by Tao Xingzhi has been newly discovered in Shanghai Library. It is recognized as the first draft of “Talk of Mr. No Yard-Wedding” in the column of Free-Talk of Shun Pao. First of all, this paper intends to observe the process of Tao Xingzhi’s conception, creation and publication of his articles from the perspective of Genetic Criticism, to find the changes of his later printed and published texts, and to investigate the real writing status of Tao Xingzhi as a patriotic educator and thinker in a specific social background. Secondly, this paper also explores the great efforts that Shun Pao has made, as a frontier of public opinion for propagating progressive thoughts, to fight against the literature encirclement and suppression and to awaken people’s conscience with the close cooperation of progressives.
