Abstract: The dataset of book borrowing and return records at Shandong Agricultural University Library was exported from Huiwen-LibSys library management software. It contains 1476944 records of book borrowing, and 125335 reader records. During the data cleaning process, reader information was re-encoded and encrypted to protect privacy; classification numbers were extracted from book call numbers; and the number of borrowing days was calculated for each transaction. These outcomes were incorporated into the final dataset as new data. The open access of this dataset is useful for studying the use of books, forecasting resource demand, guiding resource procurement, and conducting comparative studies between different universities.
