Abstract: This paper explores the influencing factors of the development of rural public reading space from the perspective of scene theory, and analyzes the high-quality development path of rural public reading space through the configuration analysis of the influencing factors. An analytical framework for the development of rural public reading space was constructed according to the scene theory, and 20 rural public reading spaces were analyzed as research samples. Using the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis(fsQCA), the study reveals improvement pathways for the development of such spaces. The findings indicate that the high-quality development of rural public reading space is not driven by a single conditional variable, but by a combination of multiple conditions across three dimensions: authenticity, theatricality, and legitimacy. Furthermore, it identifies 10 pathways to improve the effectiveness of rural public reading space construction, which can be summarized into three primary models: addressing reader needs, mining local cultural resources and fostering government and community collaboration.
