Abstract: The prosperity of audio book industry engenders the growth of massive data. To establish a general, standard and easy-to-operate description scheme of audio book metadata will help to improve the current audio book metadata organization, facilitate users to use, and promote the long-term development of the industry. The paper studies and compares two top platforms of audio books at home and abroad —Audible and Ximalaya FM regarding their catalogues and status quo, With reference to the Dublin Core,the rationality of the existing metadata description as well as the applicability of the Dublin Core Element Set. It then constructs a description scheme consisting of 23 description elements of audio book metadata.It highlights the user tasks, and can be simple and accurate, reusable, extensible, and practical.
