Abstract:

The accuracy and consistency of classification indexing are the basic principle and demand
for books classification. Inconsistency might be caused by pure error or simply selectivity. A survey on the
bibliographic data in some “Project 211” university libraries revealed that indexing inconsistency was more
serious than expected. The article analyzed the causes and proposed the use of keywords in titles during
duplicate checking, as an efficient way to avoid different numbers for the same book.
