Abstract: In recent years, the prevalence of anxiety and depression among university students has shown an upward trend. This mental health issue cannot be ignored, as it is closely related to students sense of fulfillment, wellbeing, and belonging. The establishment of decompression spaces and the provision of health support services by academic libraries play a significant role in enhancing public wellbeing and fostering social harmony. The study uses online and literature research methods to survey the current state of mental health support services in 40 representative foreign academic libraries, systematically summarizing their measures and characteristics of health support services, particularly health support activity programs and space services. The findings reveal several key characteristics of user mental health support services in foreign academic libraries, including an emphasis on mental health promotion services, multiparty participation involving users and society, continuous needs assessment and service improvement, and the maintenance of policies that prioritize quietness and mutual respect. Based on these findings, the study proposes recommendations for Chinese academic libraries to carry out user mental health and wellbeing services.
