Abstract:

Based on social exchange theory, this paper employs the fuzzy-set qualitative comparativeanalysis(fsQCA) to explore the long-term operation mechanism of 52 new reading spaces operated bysocial forces in Ningbo. The findings reveal that geographical location and spatial operation experience arethe main constraints, especially in rural areas where both supply and demand are limited and resources arescarce. A challenge lies in the conflicting operational philosophies, specifically the tension between publicwelfare objectives and market-driven goals. The study believes that we should face up to the multipleattributes of public cultural services and systematically address the conceptual imbalances and efficiencydilemmas. It advocates for enhanced resource sharing, the cultivation of social synergy, and mechanismsto support the long-term engagement of social forces participating in new reading spaces.
