The Rebuilding of the Library Space and the Practice of Urban Historic Preservation: Taking the New Building of Yangpu Library (Shanghai Library during the Republic of China Era) as an Example

Abstract: The building of Shanghai Library constructed in the 1930s has become one of the important historical remains in Shanghai urban historical culture. Yangpu Library has renovated and expanded the historical building, which is not only simply for the use of the old building, but also for the protective exploration of urban culture. The renovation and expansion of the library of the Republic of China Era is an attempt at rebuilding public cultural space in contemporary cities, seeking the integration of traditional culture and the modern city, and constituting the new practices for the preservation and research on urban history and culture
