Abstract:

Long-term digital preservation of digital resources is to ensure the long-term accessibility, understandability and usability of digital objects, regardless of changes in technologies and end users, through the management of the lifecycle of digital information. One of the key issues to address is the storage subsystem where the digital objects can be located and utilized throughouttheir lifecycle. SIRF (Self-contained Information Retention Format ) is a logical storage container format for long-term retention and preservation. SIRF is OAIS-aware, and the SIRF format is a mountable unit storage container that does
not rely on actual medium. This paper, on the basis of introducing the basic concept of SIRF format in details, proposes SIRF application model and analyzes the application effects of SIRF.
