《四库全书荟要总目》著录了《荟要》所收每一部图书的版本和校对所参照的版本。与此前的其他书目相比，《荟要总目》的内容更为简单明了，在著录形式上作了进一步的统一，语言更为规范，形式更为规整。《荟要总目》是一部重要的具有创置性并且具有独立性质的版本书目。《荟要总目》的版本著录对《荟要提要》与《总目》的版本著录都有一定影响。对《荟要总目》的版本学价值有必要重新予以认识。

The Index of Huiyao is an important original and independent catalogue of versions, which has effect in some way on Abstracts of the Huiyao and the Index of Sikuquanshu in edition recording. And the value of the Index of Huiyao needs to be re-understood.
